Baby’s 1st Christmas – a shopping guide

It’s a bit of a difficult one, baby’s first Christmas. For some, like Joseph they can be nearly 1 year old and into everything (he’s currently eating the laptop wire as I type away). For newborn’s like Evie, they’ve barely opened their eyes and the festive season is upon them.

Our Mum tells a great story about how on Amy’s first Christmas when she was exactly 5 months, Mum wrapped up nappies and all sorts of paraphernalia that she’d normally have just chucked in the trolley during her weekly trip to Sainsbury’s. When I laughed hysterically and asked why, she said that I, as pretty bright 4 year old, would have questioned why Amy didn’t have any presents to unwrap. I know she’s right and can’t help but admire the ingenuity of her plan. I’m going to do the same this year as Joe will know no better. Look out son, Father Christmas is coming a-knocking this year with wipes and all sorts of other boring but necessary pieces.

In addition, I have been scoping out a few other bits to add to his stocking to make it slightly more festive and cheerful.

This sweet Christmas Romper is £15.00 from Next and comes in sizes 0-18 months.babysfirstchristmas2

Fisher Price’s Rock-a-Stack is a firm favourite in our house. The rings can be chewed, sucked, thrown and eventually stacked. Leapfrog’s Scout is super cheap at Smyths at £12.00. It’s Emmie’s choice of Christmas present to Joe. She has Violet and he adores it so much that she wanted to give him one of his own (you can deduce from that that she doesn’t want to share anything, at all, ever, with him).  We discovered on a recent trip to Bristol that Joseph is enamoured by Roller Bead Coasters and Ikea’s is one of the best on the market and a steal at £10.00.

If you’re searching for more of an investment/long lasting piece, you’d be hard pushed to find something better than this Ruler Height Chart £28.00 at The Great Little Trading Company. We have one and it’s such a thrill measuring the children on significant dates with the added bonus for us, as an ever-moving, military family, that the heights can be captured and moved along with us.

Marks and Spencer has these lovely Baby’s 1st Christmas baubles to mark the occasion and are amongst the 3 for 2 range or £5.oo each. I love the Very Hungry Little Caterpillar bath set which is reduced to £16.36 on Amazon at the moment and I think this Weleda calendula shampoo & body wash, £6.95 is a great bath time treat for our babies and smells delicious.

I can hand on heart say that everything I’ve mentioned today is either in my house already being played with by my nearly 10 month old or in my piles of presents to wrap. This really is a list of my successes so I wanted to share them in the hope that I can inspire save you huge amounts of time this Christmas.
