Just as Amy loves Tracy Anderson, my love affair is with Jillian Michaels. I ♥ her as much as James hates her! Just after I had Emmie a few years ago I started reading about Jillian Michaels. She was famous at the time for The Biggest Loser USA but my initial introduction to her was on a British exercise forum. Everyone was raving about something called the 30 DS. Living with the military I’m a master of acronyms and soon deciphered that this was The 30 Day Shred. My pivotal moment came when Amy brought her new 30 DS DVD to Germany that Easter and I’ve never looked back.
At the beginning (and even now after a long sojourn away) Jillian was responsible for me not being able to sit on the loo for days and internally screaming with pain as I walked down the stairs. She’s a hard mistress and all of her workouts are based on the HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) but the 30 DS is only 20 minutes long and that’s what kept me going.
The Shred works on 3-2-1 Interval System that combines strength, cardio and abs and the DVD includes three complete 20 minute workouts which progress by level of intensity. Finding 20 minutes in the day to commit to exercise is far easier than an hour’s session at the gym plus traveling time. Especially with young children.
I have to admit I’ve an on-off relationship with Jillian but I always return to her. I’ve done the 30 DS so much that I know mix it up with 6W6P (6 week six-pack), Rin30 (Ripped in 30) and my current absolute favourite; Yoga Meltdown.
The DVDs and workouts have changed, toned and slenderfied my body far more than the multiple years of Cannons/David Lloyd membership ever did. At an average of £5.00 per DVD (slightly more on iTunes) my fit comes at the most bargainous price.
Tell me what you think.
